Shilen 6.5 Creedmoor Build

Steve S. of California sent us some photos of his Shilen 6.5 Creedmoor build using a Shilen Rifles Inc. barrel purchased from NSS.

Here are the specs on his barrel:

  • 28” Shilen Stainless Select Match- Large shank Savage- Bull contour- 8 twist 4 grove ratchet rifling

Steve was using a Factory Savage Target action and a Savage factory F-T/R stock.

Here is what Steve had to say:

“Savage 12 F-TR, 6.5 Creedmoor. Burro Canyon Shooting Park. Shilen barrel, 28”, 4 Ratchet groove, 1:8” Twist. 140 grain Hornady Match, 40.0 grains Hodgdon H4350, @ 2,730 fps. muzzle average. In Lapua SP 6.5 Creedmoor Brass, Fired 11 times. Primed with CCI 450 Magnum Small Rifle primers. Still hot at the range. 81 – 89 degrees at 10:00, done.

I shot off the leftover shells from yesterday’s 1,000 yd to check out the ammo loading. match.

The load looks very good. This makes 100 rounds down the bore since the last cleaning.

Best 5 @ 100 yards: CTC 0.226” ATC 0.099”. Average of 6, 5 shot groups: CTC 0.445” ATC 0.182”
