22 SHILEN CREEDMOOR BUILD
Jason of Texas sent us some info and pictures on his 22 Creedmoor build using a Shilen barrel he purchased from Northland Shooters Supply.
Here are the specs on his barrel:
– 26” Shilen- Stainless Select Match- Small Shank – Varmint Contour- 22 Creedmoor- 8 Twist With Muzzle Thread
– NSS Precicion Ground Recoil Lug
– NSS Squared and Trued Barrel Nut
Here is what Jason had to say about his build:
“Hey James, I just had to brag on this 22Creedmoor I built on a Savage short action and a 26″ Shilen 1:8” twist, barrel nut and recoil lug.
Just starting load development and have already landed on a gem of a load with 62gr Hornady ELD-VTs and StaBall6.5. This target is 4 shots at 100 yards (brown target). The rifle is still in the factory Savage stock for the time being, however it is bedded and the forend is stiffened up. Barrel is completely floated, as well. It’s got the factory AccuTrigger, lightened to 10oz.
I’m at 3700fps with StaBall6.5. I could get 3800 but I don’t want to push it that hard. Not necessary. 3700 was my goal and I just found that speed and loaded a few test loads. And man, it showed out! I bought a couple hundred of the 62s off a guy on Facebook because he said his gun hated them. So I bought em cheap and scored big time.
…Hey, James… I know I’ve already bragged on this 22Creedmoor to ya but my goodness it continues to amaze me. 110 rounds thru it now and this is 5 shots at 100 yards (orange target) using 80.5gr Berger FullBore bullets, 39.5gr of H4350 powder, Federal 205 GMM, in Peterson SRP brass. 3282 fps and a 1.5 SD.
I can’t say enough about this barrel. I can’t find a load it doesn’t like. Thank you for selling us such quality barrels!”
