Criterion 6.5 Creedmoor Small Shank Build

Criterion 6.5 Creedmoor small shank build

Seth S. of Michigan did a build in 6.5 Creedmoor using a Criterion Barrels Inc. barrel purchased from Northland Shooters Supply for his son.

The specs on the barrel are:

  • 28” Criterion barrel- bull contour- small shank Savage- 6.5 Creedmoor- 8 twist

Here is what Seth had to say about his build:

“That criterion barrel for the Savage model 110 in 6.5 Creedmoor has been unbelievable. My son has already shot a couple of 199’s and a 200 today in 600 yard F-Class. We’ve only had it about a month! Thanks again for the fast service.

We used Vihtavuori N555 powder, Lapua srp brass, 135 grain Berger bullets, and CCI 450 primers. The stock is a Bell and Carlson m40 style varmint/tactical stock that we bedded and added a 3” bag rider up front to lay in the front rest better for this f-class stuff. We actually did a test on torque specs on the action to the stock. We started at 40 inch pounds and worked up to 70, And 45 inch pounds did the best 5 shot group. We re-ran the same test again and it repeated. Not sure if it was just a coincidence deal but we stuck with 45 and it’s working.

He put a Rifle Basics Trigger in it and set it for 8 ounces. He put a fresh firing pin spring in it when we installed the barrel, I believe it’s a 32#. It’s got a straight 45 power Sightron scope on it. We are new to this laying on the ground shooting 20 shots for score, just shot our first match in April. It’s definitely an addicting form of shooting. I have shot Remington700’s my whole life and can’t wait to see how the Criterion I ordered from you works on a 700. I’m still waiting for the action to show up for that deal.”
