SHILEN 7MM REM MAG & ZERMATT ORIGIN BUILD
David from Colorado recently sent us photos and results from his latest 7mm Rem Mag build using a Shilen barrel and a Zermatt Arms Origin action purchased from Northland Shooters Supply.
Build Components:
– Zermatt Arms Origin- Long Action- Beadblast Finish
– NSS Squared and Trued Barrel Nut
– NSS 9/16”-24 Thread Protector
– Cerakote On the Barrel And Nut in Sniper Green
Here is what David had to say about his build:
“Well here’s an update on my newest build. Actually it’s my personal fourth and I have helped a couple of friends in the area with their builds, so figure about four more.
My build started out with one of your Zermatt Origin stainless steel actions, I went with one of your 26” Shilen stainless steel match barrels in 7mm Remington Magnum, cerakoted in sniper green and threaded, just in case I decide to put a “can” on it in the future. NSS cerakoted the barrel and barrel nut.
I used a Boyds Agility laminated stock and pillar bedded the action with Charley Robinson’s Score High adjustable pillars and Brownells Acraglass gel bedding, for a very solid foundation. A Trigger Tech Primary single stage trigger, which breaks like glass. And topped the rifle off with an Arken EPL-4 4×16 44mm in first focal plane.
And here’s the result of my first day at the range. After I got it printed on target, here’s the result of my third set, of three rounds, one ragged hole, using a 175 grain HPBT from Sierra with 57.0 grains on IMR 4350. It was a little too bright and my chronograph malfunctioned. So I’ll have to repeat my testing, when the weather and smoke break out here in the West!
I’m going to work up a load with a Nosler 175 grain Accubond, as I’m planning on taking it for a walk this fall, looking for another elk.
Thanks for your great products once again.”
