Personal Best with a 6BR Norma
Steven S. of California sent us some info on his recent 6BR Norma build using a Shilen Rifles Inc. barrel purchased from Northland Shooters Supply (NSS).
The specs on Steven’s barrel are:
- 30” Shilen Stainless Select Match- Large shank Savage bull barrel- 6 BR Norma with an 8 ratchet twist
- Savage Target Action
Here is what Steven had to say:
“Savage 12 F-Class, 6mm BR Norma caliber. Shilen barrel, 30”, 4 Ratchet groove, 1:8” Twist. 108 grain Hornady ELD, 29.0 / 29.2 grains Alliant RL-15, @ 2,755 / 2,780 fps. In Lapua 6BR Brass, Fired 5 times. Primed with Fiocchi Small Rifle primers. Made up 2 loads, 15 rounds each, of 29.0 and 29.2 grains of RL-15. Then shot 3 5-shot groups with each load. The results are as follows. The 1st 5 shots did not group, so we will call them Fowlers.
We are talking Max Spread here.
Load #1, 29.0 grains RL-15, Best 5 shot group, 0.306”, Average of two 5 shot groups. 0.550”.
Load #2, 29.2 grains RL-15, Best 5 shot group, 0.075”, Average of three 5 shot groups. 0.262”.
