Shilen 20 Practical Build
Gregory W. of Wisconsin sent us some photos and info on his Shilen 20 Practical. Here are the components he purchased from Northland Shooters Supply for his build:
- 26” Shilen stainless select match- large shank Savage- Bull contour- 20 Practical- 10 twist
- Savage Arms Molel 12 right bolt/ right port single shot target action
Here is what Gregory had to say about his build:
“Just built this 20 Practical using a Savage Target Action, 26” Shilen Select Match Bull barrel with a 1:10 twist, Nikon 6-24 scope. With 20 rounds shot out of the barrel, it loves 40 grain Hornady V-Max’s @ 3670 feet per second.
After 40 rounds, I cleaned the barrel with 3 patches and Hoppe’s Copper Solvent, patches had no copper on them, and the barrel was brilliant inside. The new Garmin chronograph measured these velocities and never missed a shot. I think the faster twist stabilizes even better, as none of my groups ever had a flyer, and they had low ES’s (extreme spreads).”
